Peg Whipple

President, Rotary Club of Prince George County

2010-2011

Dear Rotarians & Friends:

I welcome you to Rotary this year with an open mind and great visions for our Club.

** humor.  Humor is the lubricant of life, I'm learning, and we sure have many Club "donors" who can and should contribute: John, Steve, Pat, Erma, Daniel, Jay... Steve has already donated to this cause. We'll see if he and other PG Rotarians will continue to generously (and courageously) step up to entertain us sleepyheads at 7:45ish a.m.

** energy.  Some of us are not a.m. people so need energy to awaken, get focused, remember anything, instill enthusiasm in others, energize the room.  We will be singing, stretching, jump-jacking, or Errol Flynning a la Robin Hood each meeting.  (The EF reference has to do with District Assembly 2009:  a motivational speaker demonstrated the stance & action Errol, as Robin Hood, took when faced with insurmountable bad guy odds.) My personal favorite for a song right now is "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas"...

** continuity and sharing.  Floyd, Donna and all past presidents did  such a fine job 'gluing' the Club together with a flowing, sustaining rhythm; personal interactions with as many members as possible; reiterating the important covenants of RI and District; and mentor-ing/welcoming new members. Our 26-member Club is strong. I think we can get to 30 members this Rotary year, too.

** knowledge.  The more I learn about RI, the more I believe in Rotary and one person's potential within it.  Everyone is welcome, anyone can contribute, astounding things have been and will be realized by the tenacity and motivation of one or more members.

**relevance.  We -- as a Club, District, and RI -- must be part of the speed and technology in how people are communicating and living.

Rotary must be valid and contemporary.

**projects.  The FOLAR project is building momentum, needs a big push initially, then 80% club member HANDS-ON participation if we do get the DS Grant. Carol presented our CF with preemptive paper-work she's working hard on; she, Wayne, and Keith present to the Club on 7-21-10; and if we work together, we have a good chance of getting the grant. Other projects to keep in mind are Bright Begin-nings, an Interact foothold at the HS, and the Dictionaries project.

We can truly achieve "Building Communities, Bridging Continents."

--Peg
